How Pipedrive helped Course Record achieve 10x sales growth in just eight months

Founded in 2024 by entrepreneur Luc Bohunicky, Course Record is a low-sugar, low-caffeine drink that’s optimized for peak performance on the golf course and beyond. The brand sells directly to customers via its website and Amazon Prime, and has quickly amassed an impressive roster of B2B retail partnerships.

“Course Record is a functional hydration drink. I came up with it out of frustration with the lack of alternatives on the golf course when you’re choosing between alcohol, a sports drink with too much sugar and an energy drink with too much caffeine,” says Luc Bohunicky, the company’s founder and CEO.

Why Course Record developed a thirst for Pipedrive

The golf course has long been a place where business gets done. But for Course Record founder Luc Bohunicky, it became the inspiration for a whole new enterprise.

Originally made for golfers, Course Record is a drink that combines electrolytes, vitamins and other nutrients in a unique formula. It’s designed to support sustained focus and hydration without the sugar spikes and caffeine crashes associated with many competing products.

While the brand was created with golfers in mind, growing demand has seen it expand beyond the fairways into retail stores, hospitality venues and other sales channels. That growth presented a new challenge for Luc and his small team. With new opportunities coming in from a variety of sources – including Instagram, Meta advertising, trade shows and industry referrals – it was becoming harder to keep track of all the moving parts of the business.

Course Record initially used the HubSpot CRM platform, but it proved too complex. With his experience using Pipedrive in other businesses, Luc preferred its visual approach to sales management, more scalable pricing and the fact that it could be introduced quickly and adopted gradually. Rather than forcing the company to replace existing processes overnight, Pipedrive gave Course Record a central place to manage customer relationships while allowing existing ways of working to evolve organically.

A unique thing about Course Record is that we take what would normally require a few different drinks and put it into one can. We developed it for golfers, but quickly realized the same formula works for anyone looking to stay focused and hydrated. We’re now sold at hundreds of golf courses, as well as through our website, Amazon and major retailers, including Kroger
“I’ve used Pipedrive at different companies and one thing always stayed in my mind: it’s a really visual way to manage your pipelines and sales funnels. At first we used HubSpot, but it wasn’t nearly as visual. HubSpot can help you with email marketing and many other things, but I was looking for a simpler tool that a startup and a really small team could jump into and start using right away. From a pricing perspective, Pipedrive was much more startup-friendly too.
You want to start with something basic, but you also want something you can build into. When you’re starting out with limited resources and time, you need something better than an Excel sheet or a whiteboard.
A nice thing about Pipedrive is that it’s a natural transition from, ‘We have too many leads to manage in Apple Notes and spreadsheets,’ to a proper system.

How Pipedrive has made sales management refreshingly simple

Luc and his team use Pipedrive’s Deals feature to create separate pipelines for different parts of the business. Instead of funneling every opportunity into a single sales process, they can track retailers, golf courses and distributors independently. This gives a clear visual overview of where opportunities lie and what needs doing next.

With an increasing number of leads requiring constant attention, Course Record wanted to make sure important customer information wasn’t trapped in individual inboxes. By integrating Gmail into Pipedrive, every customer interaction is now automatically logged against the relevant account. This means everyone on the team can access a shared record. What’s more, customer history isn’t lost if team members move on.

Custom Fields are used to categorize opportunities by channel, customer type and geography. Luc sees this as an investment in future growth – cleaner data makes things easier to hand over as the business expands. By organizing leads carefully today, Course Record is laying the groundwork for future sales hires and regional sales teams.

Luc adds that one of Pipedrive’s most valuable qualities is how it encourages consistent follow-up. Visual reminders make it immediately obvious when an opportunity has been left without a next step. The result is no promising leads are forgotten.

We’ve used Pipedrive for one year and have an Advanced plan. I have a deal page for retailers, a deal page for golf courses – because I really like the visual component and that’s kind of how we organize our leads. To be able to visualize this data is really, really helpful.
Any time we’re emailing our customers, that conversational log is automatically tracked inside Pipedrive, thanks to the Gmail integration. That’s awesome. The last thing I want is to have a part-time sales rep leave the company and then I don’t know when the last time was that we spoke to a particular customer.
We love Custom Fields. We have a Custom Field for category. ‘Is this a golf course? Is it a retailer? Is it an e-commerce partner?’ We also have one for each region. Maybe in the future we have a sales rep for California. It’ll be very easy for us to look at the data and say, ‘Okay, here’s all of our California leads.
What’s also great is, if you don’t set a new reminder, Pipedrive marks it with a unique visual status to nudge you. It pushes you to set follow-ups, to set tasks, to schedule reminders.

How Course Record is teed up for even more growth with Pipedrive

Course Record’s growth has certainly been rapid. In the past eight months alone, omnichannel sales have grown tenfold. The company has also surpassed $1 million in annualized revenue, less than two years after launch. No longer just a niche product for golfers, it’s reaching new customers in all kinds of industries. At the time of writing, Luc Bohunicky is most excited about launching the brand in “hundreds of Kroger locations across the state of Texas”.

Despite this growth, the company continues to operate with a small team. Just three users manage hundreds of active B2B opportunities through a single Pipedrive account, while Luc also relies on the platform to keep track of shipments, invoices and customer payments. What this means is that the business has been able to absorb increasing volumes of activity without triggering unnecessary admin.

Luc believes Course Record has only scratched the surface of what Pipedrive CRM can offer. He expects to make greater use of forecasting tools, integrations and other Advanced features that will support the next stage of growth.

Based on his experience, Luc believes many businesses wait too long before adopting a CRM. For brands that combine direct-to-consumer sales with wholesale, retail or distribution relationships, he sees value in introducing a system early, then expanding its role as the business grows.

Aside from omnichannel growth, the B2B portion of our business is growing and we’re really comfortable that we have Pipedrive in place for it. Pipedrive is a key reason we’ve been able to grow that way while keeping things operationally simple and getting prepared to scale another 10 times.
We’re only using probably 5% of what Pipedrive is capable of doing, but we know it’s there. We can scale with the integrations, features and campaigns, and we can scale with the revenue prediction tools.
If you don’t have a CRM that you’re currently using, you’re probably crazy. The good news with a product like Pipedrive is you don’t need to overcomplicate things. You can use it very simply to get started, start seeing value right away and scale with it endlessly in the future. Your speed to realizing value is really fast. You can start using this now and start benefiting tomorrow
And I keep coming back to the visualization. Being able to visualize data these days is a necessity. Being able to do it across your sales pipeline is invaluable when you’re a startup, especially.

Final thoughts

Luc Bohunicky describes Pipedrive as “a sales weapon for selling any business”. The point is illustrated by an unusual outcome: Pipedrive has become one of Course Record’s customers, with the brand supplying drinks to Pipedrive’s Florida office while managing the account in Pipedrive CRM.

Luc jokes that the arrangement amounts to “Pipedrive inception”. The team used Pipedrive’s own software to send samples, track conversations and manage follow-ups, eventually turning Pipedrive into a customer.

“We used Pipedrive CRM to sell Pipedrive our drinks! I remember waking up one morning and seeing a reminder inside Pipedrive to follow up with them and ask how the team enjoyed the samples.”

For Luc, the story reflects what he values most about Pipedrive. Away from the software itself, he champions the people behind the product and the support they provide.

“I have nothing but good things to say about Pipedrive,” says Luc. “The team is hands-on and easy to speak to. It’s good to know that real humans are going to be helping when you need them.”
