Why Pipedrive has stayed in the frame for more than a decade

Thousands of companies have come to depend on Pipedrive CRM to manage their daily operations and accelerate business growth. What makes videoboost stand out among many is how the agency has developed in tandem with Pipedrive over time.

Eleven years have passed since CEO and founder Clemens Groche and his team launched the videoboost brand and quickly adopted Pipedrive, following recommendations from peers in Clemens’ business network. Much has changed since 2015: videoboost has grown from an ambitious startup into a full-scale video marketing agency serving more than 1,000 clients.

Over the same period, Pipedrive has evolved from a straightforward sales CRM into a comprehensive revenue platform with automation, AI and hundreds of integrations. All while retaining the principles that made Pipedrive unique in the first place: simplicity, intuitiveness and affordability.

The videoboost team periodically assessed alternative CRM platforms, including HubSpot, and Clemens also gained Salesforce experience in other contexts. Yet despite the increasing sophistication of both videoboost and the CRM market, he never found a compelling reason to switch.

For Clemens, Pipedrive strikes a balance that many CRMs fail to achieve: it continues to add new capabilities without becoming harder to use. That means he and his coworkers readily embrace new functionality rather than work around it. In short, Pipedrive has become a natural part of the sales process, rather than an administrative burden.

I still remember that the setup was very intuitive. Even today, when we onboard a new user or a new team member, it’s very easy to do. Pipedrive has always done a fantastic job with tutorials. There’s always been great support, help and service content.
I worked with Salesforce at one point and it’s just too overblown. You have way too many checkpoints that you have to set up. That’s something we’ve always loved about Pipedrive. It’s there as a support tool, not a control tool. Compared with other platforms, it just doesn’t feel painful or forced.
There was a time when our company grew significantly. I think we had something like 20 seats at one point, and the product still suited all our needs. We were able to orchestrate the whole team on it.
As Pipedrive evolved, we moved up to different pricing tiers because the utility and the benefits of the features grew as well. We’ve been happy ever since.
Even the little won-deal animation shows that the Pipedrive team understands the day-to-day work of salespeople. Those small details make a real difference.

How Pipedrive CRM keeps videoboost rolling behind the scenes

Today, Pipedrive continues to sit at the heart of videoboost’s sales work. By collating customer communications, sales activity and account history in one place, it has become what Clemens describes as the company’s “single source of truth.” For the team, the result is faster handovers, easier onboarding for new team members and a comprehensive record of every customer relationship.

Clemens adds that one of Pipedrive’s greatest strengths is that people actually use it. Rather than feeling like a daunting admin task, updating the CRM has become a natural, hassle-free part of everybody’s day-to-day workflow.

As videoboost has expanded, the team has found new ways to put Pipedrive to work. The CRM now supports everything from sales forecasting and reporting to automation and long-term account management. It also connects with the company’s wider tech ecosystem via integrations and the Pipedrive API. New features have been added over time without disrupting the way the team already works.

That continuity has proven to be a real advantage for videoboost. Eleven years of customer history can be searched, analyzed and built upon. For the sales team it’s as easy as possible to nurture customer relationships, pick out new opportunities and make well-informed decisions.

With Pipedrive, it doesn’t feel like you have to put in extra work to get your work done.
After 11 years, I can say the old adage is true: the best tool is the one you use. That’s true of a CRM more than anything else. It’s like an investment – it pays dividends when you do your homework, put in your data and build up a great database. Pipedrive makes it easy to fill in your data, get everyone in the team on board and stick to that discipline, because it’s so intuitive.
Having a centralized, single source of truth has been very important for us. It lets us build dashboards and data overviews that the whole team relies on. Our team looks at the Pipedrive dashboard almost every day.
This is very central to how we align the team and make success transparent. When you’re spending most of the day in front of a screen, it’s important to celebrate successes and stay informed about what’s happening across the team. Pipedrive has always been very good at supporting that.

How Pipedrive has put business growth on fast-forward

Pipedrive’s value hasn’t come from its features alone. It’s also the result of the CRM keeping pace with the business over many years – consistently capturing customer data and helping videoboost turn it into better decisions.

These days, the team uses the CRM to manage long-term client relationships, understand customer lifetime value and retain valuable account knowledge as contacts move on and new stakeholders come in. Integrations and the Pipedrive API connect that data to other parts of the business. The result is reduced manual work and more accurate customer information.

The team also uses Pipedrive to spot patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed. By analyzing its sales data, videoboost discovered that inbound inquiries are far more likely to convert within two weeks. Acting on that insight helped the agency respond with greater urgency before leads went cold.

This has all contributed to excellent results for the company. Since adopting Pipedrive in 2015, videoboost has completed more than 6,000 projects, generated €25 million in revenue and won more than 25 DAX 40 companies as customers. CEO and founder Clemens Groche remains confident that, with Pipedrive continuing to evolve in line with the business, the scene is set for even more growth.

All the features that we wished for have been developed. Even though the features and capabilities grew a lot, the performance of the product – page load, database access and so on – has always been great. It’s never slowed down.
It’s very important for us to keep an eye on our long-term clients and do the account management within Pipedrive. When key contacts change on the client side, it’s essential to know what happened before they left and why they started working with us in the first place. That helps us maintain the relationship and reduces the risk of the client switching to another vendor.
We’ve been using Zapier a lot to connect Pipedrive to our offer tool. We also connect it to Microsoft Teams to keep the team informed through automatic notifications. More recently, data enrichment tools have become a great way to keep our contact data up to date.
For a video agency, the number of projects we’ve completed and the revenue generated are pretty enormous. And having so many DAX 40 customers is something we love to talk about.

Final thoughts

Now into his second decade as a Pipedrive customer, Clemens sees AI playing the biggest role in his future use of the CRM. He points to how it creates new opportunities to unlock more value from the customer data videoboost has accumulated.

“We’re already connecting the vast trove of data we have in Pipedrive with other tools through AI,” he comments. “We don’t need a developer to set up API access like we did in previous years, which is great. AI makes it much easier to enrich your CRM data, but it also makes it easier to reduce its quality. We want to keep the data clean and stay on top of that.”

He adds that he’s pleased Pipedrive has stayed true to its original simplicity. “I’m particularly happy that Pipedrive has pretty much stuck to the same interface. The pipeline view was so compelling from the beginning, and it still works very well for us.”
